About Thimphu Tshechu

Thimphu Tshechu is one of the biggest festivals in the country. The festival is held in Thimphu for 3 days beginning on 10th day of the 8th month of lunar calendar. When it was initiated by the 4th Desi Gyalse Tenzin Rabgay in 1867 the tshechu consisted of only a few dances and later underwent a change in 1950s, when the third king Jigme Dorji Wangchuk added colors and variation to the festival with the number of masked dances.
